Okay, Im probably gonna say something controversial: You should have been allowed privacy even when you cut yourself. I say this as someone who also used to cut themselves, and as someone who has loved ones who hurt themselves. I get that its distressing to think that youd be cutting behind closed doors, but you still have a right to privacy. If they really cared, theyd make themselves out to be people you can trust to tell about your cutting. The fact that they went right for restricting your freedoms makes me have an inkling over why you felt so depressed in the first place. Anyway. No it is not okay, no matter what you did. You deserve privacy, especially when you are changing clothes. I get that they supposedly care about your cutting, but what does walking in unannounced have to do with helping you? I hate to accuse your parents (Im assuming parents) of this, but my mom has a nasty habit of using my health issues as justification to do things to me that have. nothing to do with the actual health issue, but theyre things shes wanted me to do for a while now. So maybe your parents really did not want you to have the unfathomable luxury of privacy, and they saw an opportunity to take it. Start closing your door again. Insist youre fine, show them your arms if you have to, and say that its distressing that people can just intrude on you whenever they want. If they dont like it then they can cry you a river.
