I noticed that CHP officers would use Adam for A, Boy for B, Nora for?
They just refer to the letters. So nora means the letter N. This is known as a phonetic alphabet. I used the NATO one when I was in the military, and had to learn a different one when I joined the LASD. Theres very little overlap. The purpose is merely to make things clear when speaking or broadcasting. If you were reading off a license plate, and just said n, well, it could easily be mistaken for m, since they sound so much alike. Phonetically, you would understand which letter was which when using nora and mary or november or mike(NATO).
