Have you not noticed that at night we hear better than the day?
That your hearing is any better at night is unlikely. But, depending on where you are, night noises can be quite loud and continuous. One friend of mine lived near a creek out in the country far from highways and cities. But, if we sat outside under the stars, hundreds or more bullfrogs would start croaking to attract mates and it would be hard to carry on a conversation over their racket. So much for the peace and quite of living in the country. Even when we lived next to a ranch in Montana, the bawling of the calves for three days and nights after they were separated from their mothers was constant and deafening. However, I have laid out at night on the pampas of Argentina in the province of Cordoba where the population was minimal and the sheep and cattle laid down to sleep and where it was so quiet I could have sworn I heard the sound of the world turning.
