What was your experience with EMDR?

I had EMDR before a serious surgery that I was really stressed about. It was VERY helpful, though wasnt purely emdr. It was also combined with some tapping exercises and therapy. Sounds crazy, but what helped me relieve the stress and anxiety most, was something as simple as looking back and forth between two separated focal points, say the left and right upper corners of a large painting. It distracted me from the anxiety, it didnt take any mental effort in the sense of trying to rationalize my fear away, but its like re-routing the stress into something neutral. I did that consistently every time I started worrying about the procedure, and truly in a month or two, got to where I couldnt wait to get in there and get the surgery over with.
