Can I buy and register an EZPass transponder if I have unpaid tolls?
If possible, I would wait for the unpaid toll matter to be cleared up. I dont know which state you are in, but cashless toll violations have been a problem here in NY. There is a contract company Conduent which handles nearly half of the U.S. electronic-tolling market. There were big issues, exactly as you describe, with people not receiving bills, penalties building up, and auto registrations being suspended. It was so bad that, a couple of years ago, NYS ran an amnesty program. If those bastards currently dont have your bank account or CC info, dont give it to them. Stay on them, keep appealing, and dont let up until they settle for the unpaid toll amount with no penalties. Pay it, then proceed with opening an EZPass account.
